Get ready for election day.
Practical material for observer groups, media monitors, institutions and campaign situation rooms. Useful whether or not you use EIRIS.
Election-day readiness.
The checks we hold ourselves to before any production election. Use them for your own operation, with any system.
A backup that has never been restored, or a rehearsal that never happened, is a guess. Each line here is something you can show someone else.
0 of 16 ready
Your ticks are saved in this browser only. Nothing is sent to EIRIS.
A shared vocabulary for the day.
Situation rooms move faster when everyone means the same thing by the same word. Election terms, operations terms, and the words EIRIS uses.
28 terms
- AccreditationElections
- Confirming a voter's identity and registration at the polling unit before they vote. The number of accredited voters appears on the result sheet.
- AI extractionEIRIS
- An AI reading of the numbers on a sheet photo, shown beside what the agent typed. Stored separately and labelled as derived. It never changes the result.
- Audit logEIRIS
- The append-only record of important actions: who did what, to which record, when, and why.
- BVASBimodal Voter Accreditation SystemElections
- The device the electoral commission uses at polling units to accredit voters and to capture an image of the polling-unit result sheet.
- Chain of custodyEIRIS
- The record of a piece of evidence from capture to every later view or download, including the fingerprint taken on the phone.
- Check-inOperations
- An agent confirming they have arrived at their polling unit. EIRIS records the time and the distance from the unit.
- CollationElections
- Adding up results level by level: polling units into wards, wards into LGAs, LGAs into states. Each level has its own collation form.
- CoordinatorOperations
- A person responsible for agents in one ward, LGA or state. Sees and acts on reports within that area only.
- Deterministic checkEIRIS
- A fixed rule that gives the same answer every time, for example: do the party totals add up to the valid votes? Runs before any AI.
- EscalationOperations
- When a critical incident is not acknowledged in time, it moves up the chain: ward, then LGA, then state, then command.
- EvidenceEIRIS
- Original photos, video and sheet images from the field. Kept exactly as captured.
- Field agentOperations
- A person at a polling unit who reports for an organization: arrival, incidents, and the result with a sheet photo.
- IncidentOperations
- Anything at a polling unit that needs attention: late materials, overcrowding, equipment problems, safety concerns. Moves from New to Acknowledged to Resolved.
- Incident severityOperations
- How urgent an incident is: Critical, High, Medium or Low. Severity is separate from status, and always shown with a label, not colour alone.
- IReVINEC Result Viewing portalElections
- The electoral commission's public portal where images of polling-unit result sheets are published.
- LGALocal government areaElections
- The administrative level between a ward and a state. Bauchi State has 20 LGAs.
- Offline firstEIRIS
- The field app saves everything on the phone first and sends it when there is signal. It only says Submitted after the server confirms.
- Polling unitPUElections
- The place where voters registered there cast their ballots and where votes are first counted. The smallest unit of election geography, and the place a field agent is usually assigned to.
- Polling unit codeElections
- The identifier for a polling unit, built from state, LGA, ward and unit numbers, for example 05/02/04/012.
- RehearsalEIRIS
- A practice run of election day on synthetic data, in an environment clearly marked as not live.
- Reporting silenceOperations
- A polling unit with no check-in by the expected time, or an agent not heard from for too long. A coverage gap worth a call.
- Result sheetForm EC8AElections
- The official form on which the polling-unit result is recorded and signed. In EIRIS, agents photograph it so the typed numbers can be checked against it.
- SHA-256 fingerprintEIRIS
- A code computed from a file's exact bytes. If the file changes at all, the code changes, so it shows the original has not been altered.
- SitRepSituation reportOperations
- A dated summary of coverage, incidents and verification for a given area, for partners or leadership.
- Situation roomOperations
- The team, and the room, that follows an election as it happens: watching field reports, handling incidents, and checking results.
- TenantEIRIS
- One organization using EIRIS. Each tenant's data is kept separate from every other tenant's.
- VerificationEIRIS
- Checking a submitted result against its sheet photo. Deterministic checks run first, then a person accepts, flags, or asks for a resubmission.
- WardRegistration areaElections
- A group of polling units within an LGA. Results from polling units are collated at ward level.
